The Alsace region can be found in the east of France, with large cities like Strasbourg, Colmar and Mulhouse. The river Rhine now separates Alsace from Germany. In history this border has been moved frequently. Although the region has changed hands many times, it has never lost its strong own character. Nowadays the European Union has its seat in this region. The Alsace region is renowned for its culinary excellence, like choucroute (sauerkraut), paté de foie gras, kougelhopf and, most notably, Alsace wine.
